Grid connection refusals are one of the most common blockers facing UK businesses right now and one of the least understood. Why grid constraints are becoming a bigger problem
The UK's electricity network was built for a different era. Generation was centralised, demand was predictable, and the grid moved power in one direction from large power stations to consumers.

What a grid connection refusal actually means
When a DNO says there's no available capacity at your connection point, what they mean is that the local substation or network infrastructure can't reliably supply additional load at peak times without risking network stability.
It doesn't necessarily mean there's no power available at all. It means the network can't guarantee supply at the level you need, at the times you need it, without reinforcement work and that work comes at a cost, which is typically passed to the applicant.
The distinction matters, because it opens up a different question: what if you didn't need to draw that power from the grid at peak times?
Battery Storage as a grid constraint solution
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) offer a direct answer to the peak demand problem.
